A goal turns "I'd like a home someday" into a number with a date. You set one up in a short three-step wizard — the basics, the money, then how it's funded. Go to Goals and click Goal to start.
Step 1: The basics
The wizard opens on Goal basics. Pick the goal type — Home, Vehicle, Education, Retirement, Travel, Wedding, Business or Custom — give it a Goal name, set a Target date (the chips from In 2 years to In 20 years are the fast way), and choose its Importance.
Pick a type, name the goal, choose a target date, and set how important it is.
Note: Importance isn't just a label — Must-have goals are the last to be sacrificed and Nice-to-have the first, which matters when a projection has to choose what your money funds.
Step 2: The amount and timeline
Click Continue to Money & timeline. Enter the Target amount in today's money — what it would cost right now — and drag Expected inflation rate (6% (typical) is marked). The wizard then shows two numbers that make the goal honest.
What it'll cost grows today's price by inflation; Monthly SIP needed is what it takes to get there.
- What it'll cost in {month year} — your target grown by inflation to the target date.
- Monthly SIP needed — roughly how much to invest each month, assuming a 12% return, counting anything you fund in the next step.
Step 3: Fund it
On the Funding step, use Search holdings... to find investments that back this goal and tick them. Each shows a fit badge — Great fit, Decent fit or Volatile fit — based on how its risk sits against your time horizon. Use the Allocate slider, or the 25% / 50% / 75% / 100% buttons, to earmark just a share of each — the percentages are yours to split across goals.
Tick a holding, then set how much of it funds this goal with the Allocate slider.
Click Create goal to finish. It appears in your goals list, already part-funded by what you linked — the next article covers reading its progress.
Tip: You don't have to link anything now. Create the goal, and add holdings to it later — the Monthly SIP needed simply assumes you start from what's linked.
