How do I fix a demerger or missing buy history?

Resolve import follow-ups — a demerger split, or a sale with no matching buy.

Updated 23 Jul 2026

Sometimes an import can't finish on its own — a company split into two, or you sold something the file never showed you buying. ProjectionWealth flags these as follow-ups instead of guessing, and each is a quick fix. You'll also see an Action Required marker in the top bar.

Demerger Resolution Required

When one holding splits into several, the app needs to know how to divide the original cost. Set the Qty ratio and COA % (cost of acquisition) for each resulting stock. The COA % figures must sum to 100, and a per-lot transfer preserves your original buy dates — which keeps your XIRR and tax holding period correct. Then Resolve Demerger.

Split the cost across the demerged stocks (COA must total 100%), and fill in any buy the file was missing.

Missing Buy History

If your file has a sell with no matching buy, the gain can't be worked out. Add the original purchase — a Buy Date, Qty and Buy Price — and hit Fix. If you'd rather leave it out entirely, Skip drops that transaction.

Note: Clearing these follow-ups is worth the minute — until they're resolved, the affected holdings show incomplete cost and returns, and their capital-gains tax can't be estimated.
