How do I move a holding to another portfolio?

Reassign a holding to another family member's portfolio — with no tax event.

Updated 22 Jul 2026

Recorded a holding under the wrong family member? Move it across in a couple of clicks. It's a reassignment, not a sale — nothing is taxed and no gain is booked.

Move a holding

Step 1: Open the mover

On the holding's page, click the portfolio name shown under the title — it's the underlined name, like Papa.

Click the underlined portfolio name under the holding's title.

The Move to Portfolio form opens.

Step 2: Pick the new portfolio

Choose who it should belong to. The one it's in now is marked Current. Select a different family member and click Move.

Pick the new owner — the holding's current portfolio is labelled Current.

Note: The whole holding — every buy, its cost and its history — moves with it. Because nothing is sold, there's no capital gain and no tax event.

If you'd rather move only part of a holding, use Transfer Between Portfolios under Transactions instead — it lets you set a Quantity to move.
