How do I buy more of a holding I already own?

Add another purchase to an existing holding and update its average cost.

Updated 22 Jul 2026

Bought more of something you already hold? Add the purchase to the existing holding rather than creating a new one — that way your average cost and returns stay right.

Record a buy

Step 1: Open the holding

From Holdings, click the holding you added to. On its page, click Buy in the top-right.

Step 2: Enter the purchase

The Buy form opens with the holding's name. Fill in the Date, Quantity, and Price (or NAV for a fund). Charges (auto) fills itself, and a Total value row adds it up.

The Buy form — the Total value row sums price, quantity and charges.

Step 3: Add the buy

Click Add Buy. The new purchase joins the holding's transactions, and its Avg Cost updates to blend the old and new prices.

Note: Adding at a higher price lifts your average cost; adding at a lower one pulls it down. The holding's Qty and Invested both grow by what you just added.
