How do I sell a holding and see the tax?

Sell units, watch the FIFO lot preview, and see estimated tax before you confirm.

Updated 22 Jul 2026

When you sell, ProjectionWealth shows which lots are being sold and what the tax looks like — before you confirm. So there are no surprises at the end of the year.

Sell a holding

Step 1: Open the Sell form

On the holding's page, click Sell. The form shows how much you have available and your average cost.

Step 2: Enter the sale

Fill in the Sell Date, Quantity and Sell Price. Charges (auto) fills itself. As you type, a FIFO Lot Matching panel appears.

The FIFO Lot Matching panel shows the lots sold, the P&L and the STCG Tax.

Step 3: Read the lot preview

Selling uses FIFO — your oldest units go first. The panel lists each lot with its gain and whether it counts as LTCG or STCG. The bottom row totals the P&L and the estimated STCG Tax.

Note: Older lots (held over a year) show as LTCG; recent ones as STCG. Because it's FIFO, selling a smaller amount tends to release your oldest, longest-held units first.

Step 4: Confirm

Happy with it? Click Confirm Sell. The sale is booked, your quantity drops, and the realized gain moves into your sold records.

Tip: Want to test different amounts without booking anything? Use the Tax outlook slider on the holding's page — it previews the tax for any partial sale.
